The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Witnesses said when a gang of bandits swooped on the house of one Ranjit Biswas of the village the inmates raised a hue and cry. Hearing their scream local people rushed there and chased the bandits.
As the bandits were fleeing people of Tulatoli village caught one of them after chasing and gave him a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body from a paddy field at Kabilpur village Sunday morning and sent it to hospital morgue.
