Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken three month long extensive "Tree plantation programme-2012" in the district this year.
The programme has been implementing here from the month of July and it will be continued in September DAE sources said.
DAE has fixed month wise target for planting tree saplings in Narsingdi district. DAE has taken target to plant 184,540 saplings in all 6 Upazilas of the district. Of the total 1,02100 fruit bearing and 20340 medicinal.
Sources said, to implement the programme month wise separate target has been fixed earlier. As per target of planting 45,660 saplings have already been planted in July, 60,200 saplings in August and 78,680 saplings in September.
As the programme has been gaining popularity here so that the target of planting has all ready been exceeded in July.
Target was fixed for planting 45,660 saplings while planted 58300 saplings, which shows that 12,640 additional saplings have been planted during the month of July.
According to sources Roypura upazila has attained top position by planting 12,100 saplings and Sadar upazila in lowest position by planting 5,210 saplings in this regard.
These saplings were planted in different educational institutions, socio cultural organisations, clubs and religious institutions, the sources added.
