Fifty power sub-stations soon

The government will set up 50 new power sub-stations under its Rural Electrification Upgradation Programme, according to a Power Division proposal. 
 "The project will be implemented in cooperation with Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), an official told The New Nation.  
These power sub-stations will be set up in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal division. Under the project, a 2,321-kilometre new power line will be installed, the existing power line in an area of 2,703 kilometres be renovated and 30 existing sub-stations be upgraded.   
The Power Division prepared the proposal on July 31 in this regard to send it to the cabinet committee on purchase, which is expected to be okayed in its next meeting soon.
The timeframe of the project, approved by ECNEC earlier, is July 2010 to June 2015 and its estimated cost is Tk 326.6396 core.
Earlier in December 2011, Rural Electrification Board (REB) invited tender to purchase goods and local and foreign seven companies participated in the tender.
The REB allowed three companies as responsive bidders which include BRB Cable Industries Limited, Kustia; Jiangu zhongtion Technology Company Limited, China and Hangzhou Cable Shareholding Company Limited, China.
