Campaign for Dean election at JU makes campus noisy

At Jahangirnagar University (JU), candidates vying for the post of deans are passing hard time to get themselves elected in the upcoming polls scheduled to be held on August 02.
Official sources said, deans for four faculties, out of six will be elected on the day which will be held at Teachers' Club from 9am to 1.30pm.
The four faculties which are going to elect deans are Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences.
Eight teachers have submitted their nomination papers to take part in the polls.
JU Registrar Abu Bakker Seddique told this correspondent that the total number of votes in the polls is 463 to elect the four deans.
Two teachers are taking part from each faculty in the election. The candidates of the Social Science faculty include the incumbent dean Prof Sajed Asraf Karim, besides Chairman of JU Economics department Prof Amir Hossen.
The candidates for the faculty of Arts and Humanities are Sayed Kamrul Ahsan of Archeology department and Ahmed Reja of English department.
Besides, Chairman of JU Botany department Prof Abul Khayer and Professor Shohel Rana of Pharmacy Department are vying for the post of the dean for the Biological Science Faculty.
On the other hand, the candidates of Mathematical and Physical Science Faculty include Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder of statistics department and Prof Abul Hossain of Physics Department.
Contesting groups which have nominated their candidates are holding campaign programmes to win voters behind them. Iftar party and so such other activities are taking the pre-election air to noisy contest. n
