Meritimus to invest Tk.120cr in shipbuilding

Meritimus, a Bangladeshi company, is set to invest Tk. 120 crore in the ship building industry of the country with the target of making business of Tk. 400 crore collectively with others in Bangladesh. The company will start operation in the first quarter of 2013.
The chairman of the company, A. M Rafiqul Islam, came up with the disclosure while talking to banglanews on July 11.
He said, "The Company will be the best one of its kind and completely own by non residence Bangladeshis. We are coming with something big as some European countries, including Turkey have showed their interest in this regard after holding several successful meetings with us."
Mentioning that Europe and Africa could be the biggest market for the ship building industries, he informed, "Our company is expected to contribute its best in the national economic sector through exporting ships in European and African countries and thus it will create an employment opportunity for of 1500 people including women."
"Maritimus will have the multi national and multi cultural management system and it will create 100% local base employment with an exception of a team of 6 expertises (5% percent) from around the world as head hunting", he added.
The chairmen said, "We have a future plan to set up a marine academy and vocational training center along with the International export oriented ship yard, domestic line ship yard for the maintenance of both the international and domestic ships."
Meanwhile, he informed that they are looking for an investment capital of Tk.70 crore complied with ethos of the company which is "It is driven by character, principles and transparency; guided by firm convictions, commitment to its investors/share holders; courage enough to face challenges and courtesy in all dealings.
"The Investors will be able to get their profit share in foreign currency as they invest through remittance in foreign currency", he added.
Maritimus will have generous package for its employees and the management style of the company will be totally different unlike Bangladesh today, chairman of the Maritimus A.M Rafiqul Islam said.
