Both Dhaka City Corporations will announce around Tk 4,000 crore budget proposals for the fiscal year 2012-13 today (Thursday), with imposition of no new taxes, officials said.
Since formation of DCC in 1978, for the first time the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) would declare separately two budgets of Tk 1,950 crore and Tk. 1,967 crore respectively.
DCC had announced a Tk 2,715 crore budget for FY 2011-2012.
Both administrators of DSCC and DNCC, Zillar Rahman and Shajahan Ali Mollah will place the budgets at Nagar Bhaban at 3:00 pm and Banani Community Centre at 11:00 am.
The revenue collection mechanism would be further strengthened to mobilise funds to finance the development programmes intended to make the city life comfortable, the officials of the both corporations told The New Nation wishing not to be named.
"There will have some new projects in this budget, and if these are implemented, people will get a new Dhaka."
The corporation earns revenues from holdings, lighting and conservancies, trade licensing, advertisements, rickshaw licenses, markets and community centres.
It spends in maintaining roads, drains, footpaths, hospitals, markets, bus terminals, public toilets and libraries, among others.
"The size of the proposed budget would be large than before as corporation costs increased," Zillar Rahman said.
