Relief for flood-hit people allocated

The government has allocated about Tk 2.60 crore in cash and 7,500 tonnes of rice for the people who have been affected by the recent floods and landslides across the country, officials said on Friday.
Of the total relief, Tk 1.35 crore in cash and 5000 tonnes of rice were allocated to different district administrations yesterday, according to an official of Food and Disaster Management Ministry.
The Ministry held an emergency meeting on the day, with Disaster Management Secretary Dr M Aslam Alam in the chair.
The latest flood situation and the way outs to tackle the disaster came up for discussion in the meeting, attended by the ministry high officials.
The districts that got relief allocation are: Hobiganj, Lalmonirhat, Rangamati, Gopalganj, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Serajganj, Pabna, Rajbari, Madaripur, Bogra, Munshiganj, Shariatpur and Sunamganj.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) remained opened yesterday to review the flood situation.
Flash flood and landslides have left at least 114 people dead and 500,000 stranded in the country, including Chittagong hill districts, for the last couple of days.
Officials in the affected areas reported of about 100 people is missing, many of whom were swept away by floodwater. They said about 200 persons were also injured.
