The government has named a road here after Pritilata Waddedar, the first woman who sacrificed her life in the struggle against colonial rule in the subcontinent, marking her birth centenary. The Roads and Railway Department issued a circular on Wednesday for naming a road after Pritilata at her native village, Dalghat, under Patiya upazila of the district. According to the circular, the renovated road from the last end of Sahid Abdus Sabur Road to Mukunda Ram Hat of Boalkhali upazila has been named as Pritilata Waddedar Road. Pritilata died on September 23, 1932 in front of the erstwhile European Club at Pahartoly in the city during a fight against the British rule.
