Save the environment, plant trees

Tree plantation programme held at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet on Monday to mark the "National Tree Plantation Week" by the arrangement of Forestry and Environmental Science department.
VC Prof Md. Saleh Uddin inaugurated the tree plantation programme. Near the academic building planting a tree he inaugurated the tree plantation programme.  As a part of this programme more than hundred fruitful, bonoj and medicinal tree were planted. Among others Dean of the Department of Life Science Prof Yeasmin Haque, Dr. Narayon Shaha, Prof. Himadree Shekor Roy and students of Forestry, Environmental Science and other Departments were also present there.
 A colorful rally and mass-signature programme observed in SUST in occasion of  " World Environment Day'2012" with the slogan "Green Economy: Does it include you?" Observerd on 5th June.
Green Explore Society (GES); a volunteer organization of  SUST has brought out the rally from the " Library building" and parading the main road on the campus ended at the front of "E building".
University proctor Assistant  Prof. Dr Himadree Shekor Roy in English department, student adviser and director Prof. Dr. Anwarul Islam in Mathematics department,  associate Prof. Swapon Kumer Sarker in Forestry and Environmental Science department with students took part in the rally. The fruitful and medicine tree numbering 11 were planted on the campus, where 6 species were new for the university naming Horithoki Amloki, Atha, Kamranga, Bohera, Orboroi, Bilembu.
 Mass-signature  programme was  inaugurated by the Prof. Dr Md Zafor Iqbal Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) bearing the slogan "Shopoth kori aj, poribesh rokkay korbo kaj (to protect environment, promise today)".
Prof. Dr. Md. Zafor Iqbal said, " Only tree plantation can not protect our environment and if we become conscious i, e in cause to fall the packet of chips, chalklet ; our environment will be more beautiful and clean". Among others there were present dean of the School of Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Yeasmin Haque, Afsana Hossaini, general secretary Onimesh Ghus in GES.

Jahangirnagar University  (JU) observed the World Environment Day-2012 and inaugurated a weeklong tree plantation programme with on the campus with a call to plant more trees to maintain nature beauty and ecological balance in the campus.
Marking the day, a colorful procession was brought out led by newly appointed Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Anwar Hossain, which is the first programme of JU after his joining. The procession started from administrative office and ended at the play ground of Al-Beruni Hall parading the main street of the campus followed by planting trees and short briefing.
The VC inaugurated the tree plantation programme planting a banyan tree then he planted different types of trees planted in the strategic points on the campus with the motto of building evergreen JU campus. The VC sought cooperation of all concerned to come forward maintaining ecological balance through such programme.    He also advised the students to plant different species like wood, fruit bearing and medicinal plants for protecting environmental degradation.
He pointed out that, anything of JU campus would not be used as commercial purpose and efficient measures would be taken to save its biodiversity and natural beauty. Among others, Pro-VC Prof Dr Farhad Hossain, Treasurer Prof Nasir Uddin, President JU Teachers Association (JUTA) Prof AA Mamun, President of Officer's Club ATM Abdul Hannan, Chairman of JU Environmental Science department Prof Safi Mohammad Tarek, Prof Firoz of botany and Prof Rafiqun Nabi of Zoology were also addressed the function.
President of World Environment Day observing committee Prof Dr Abul Khayer presided over the function. n
