Nat’l Rabindra Sangeet Utsab begins

Sheikh Arif Bulbon : If we reminiscence the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore in the field of Bengali song, literature, short story, play and poem there is no way to ignore Tagore by virtue of his outstanding contributions in our life. He is an extraordinary person whom creations always inspire in the minds of Bangalees in every time. He needs no introduction in Bangalees lives. He was a Bengali poet, novelist, musician, painter and playwright who reshaped Bengali literature and music. Among his many famous works are ‘Gitanjali’, ‘Gora’ and ‘Ghore-Baire’. He was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. His poetry in translation was viewed as spiritual and this together with his mesmerizing persona gave him a prophet-like aura in the west. Tagore was perhaps the only litterateur who penned anthems of two countries - “Jana Gana Mana”, the Indian national anthem and “Aamar Shonar Bangla”, the Bangladeshi national anthem. This year is the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. To celebrate his birth anniversary, like previous years’ arrangements Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha arranged a five-day festival titled “22nd Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Utsab” from May 4 at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of the Central Public Library Auditorium in the city’s Shahbagh area. The festival, sponsored by Banglalink, began on Wednesday evening. The festival began with the rendition of National Anthem “Aamar Shonar Bangla” where 150 Tagore artistes under the banner of Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha stood up and rendered the National Anthem. Noted cultural personality Mahbub Jamil inaugurated the festival. Noted journalist and litterateur Rahat Khan was honored and was given ‘Kalim Sharafi Smriti Padak’. The festival is in total five days long, and will include recitations, Tagore songs both solo and group, group dance, drama, movie show and prominent cultural show like ‘Geeti Nrityanatya’. This is the second year Banglalink is sponsoring this cvent. Ahmed Abou Doma, CEO of Banglalink, commented “After many years of celebration, this event has become one of the most significant events of our cultural arena. Thousands f cultural lovers will gather to enjoy this fabulous five day long festival and Banglalink is proud to sponsor this great event”. The festival will end on May 8.
