‘Rarang’ staged

Country’s one of the most prominent theatre troupes, Aranyak Natyadal staged one of its most acclaimed productions, ‘Rarang’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy last Sunday evening.
Rarang was premiered on September 4 in 2004 while its glorious 100th show was staged in the very beginning of this year. ‘Rarang’ is the 40th production of the troupe.
Written and directed by popular TV actor, playwright and veteran theatre artiste Mamunur Rashid, ‘Rarang’ depicts the struggle of the ethnic minority group living in northern part of Bangladesh against feudalism and religious racism.
‘Rarang’ is a santal word, which means battle cry. The play is based on the true story of Alfred Shoren, a Santal hero who sacrificed his life to resist the ongoing oppression on his community imposed by the ruling Bengalis since 1947.
Stunning performance of popular TV actors Mamunur Rashid, Tomalika Karmaker and Chanchal Chowdhury impressed the audiences most while the presentation of other artistes including Shamima Shawket Lovely, Hasina Safina Banu, Md Sayfuzzaman, Quamrul Hassan, Amanul Haque Helal, Md Saiful Alam Shiploo, Habib Ahmed, Abu Khair Md. Hassan, Delwar Hossain, Mohammad Arif Hossain, Deepak Kumar Goswami, Ananya Mugdho, Muhammad Saiful Islam, Md Mozaffer Hossain, Ayan Ghosh, Abu Hashim, Masuduzzaman, Partha Kumar Chatterjee, SM Nazrul Islam, Mamunur Rashid, Md. Sazzadul Islam, Mohammad Farid Uddin, Goutam Chandra Mondal, Mitali Das, Sharmin Hayat Dipa, Laila Bilkis, Sohel Rana and Mohammad Khaled Saifullah Patwari was also worthy praising.
The set of this play was designed under the direction of Faiz Zahir while Parimal Majumder, Md Abdul Alim, Kalipada Roy, Jesmin Begum, Zareer Jowad Kazi were in music.
