Smiling teacher can turn class-room lively

Nishath Sultana :

There is a proverb, "Smile and the whole world smiles with you". If we compare a classroom with a kingdom then a teacher will be the king or queen and his or her students will be the subjects of that kingdom. A teacher has a tremendous power to make his or her kingdom smile. So the smiles of the students depend on the ability of the teachers to make the class smile. So we can say that a teacher is the father or mother of a smiling classroom. There is a great importance of smile in education. Smile is the reflection of love. Smile plays a very important role to make a classroom happy. A class becomes effective only when it can ensure joyful and spontaneous participation of the students. We should not keep the effects of smile limited in the boundary of the schools rather smile is the key to make the whole world happy. A teacher can win over the hearts of the students through his or her smiles.
Smile promotes confidence among the students. The students are always afraid of the new teacher and the lesson when a new class starts. It is the responsibility of the teacher to help the students to overcome their fear. When a teacher appears to a class for the first time he or she should wear smile on his or her face. Because a smiling face spreads love and care for the students. They will accept the teacher positively. It will immediately drive away nervousness and hesitation from the students.
The smiling face of the teacher will sow the seeds of confidence and trust among the students. Gradually they will repose trust on the teacher. The students will become fearless to express themselves. The door of child's self development will remain locked if fear enters in the mind of a child. The students will gain confidence to ask questions to their teachers only when they can overcome their nervousness. Asking questions empowers the capacity of students to become more attentive learners. By this way smile will contribute to improve a healthy teaching learning environment in the classroom. Creativity and innovation are originated from the freedom and confidence of the students.
A teacher can make a subject popular among the students. Unless the children love the teacher, they cannot love the subject. The smile of the teacher makes the children fearless and brave to ask questions regarding the subject. The smile and the free frank behaviour of the teacher can attach the students with their lessons. The students will grow love for the subject as well. Thus smiles can contribute to the better performance of the students in the relevant subject.
Smile can establish a good relationship between teachers and students. It bridges the gap between them. A teacher is the creator of a happy classroom environment. Happiness is resulted from love and smile is the reflection of love. If there is a happy environment in the classroom, students will be able to learn better. Children normally consider teachers as their ideals. They love to follow their smiles and attitude.  They observe teacher's personality with care and they love to follow them. Smile has always a positive impact upon the children. So if the children are attached by the smiling face of the teachers, they will follow it in their real life. When the children will learn how to smile, it will keep them aloof from many negative thoughts. Smile has tremendous power to wash away all impurities of mind.
Mere teaching methodology is not adequate to become an effective teacher. To establish a friendly and fearless relation is the pre condition to become a successful teacher. The smile of the teachers helps a lot in this regard.  It is the secret to make a teacher popular among the students.
A smiling teacher can easily win over the hearts of the students. Smile is the magic behind getting control over the class. It is always a wrong strategy to get control over the class by creating panic among the students for the teacher. Nobody loves to see a gloomy face. So if anyone wants to be a successful teacher he or she should learn at first how to love and smile. A smile costs nothing but gives much. Mother Teresa said, "Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.
